We speak about his experiences also being raised Mormon in Utah, the detrimental language against the LGBTQ+ community STILL being spoken by the Mormon church today, and losing his brother Mitch to suicide. WEST honors Mitchell's life and the bravery of Alex for being willing to speak about it.

Journey Of Choosing Me: Part Two:

The summer of Rodayna's 21st birthday she flew to Egypt to spend time with her father’s family. A few weeks later, her father took her passport when she expressed wanting to return to NYC to be with the man she loved. Over the next few days, she visited a US Embassy in secret to obtain an emergency passport. In the middle of the night, she fled from her family’s compound, removing her hijab as to not be recognized by the guards at the gate when she called an Uber at 3 am.

Rodayna’s parents immigrated to the United States from Cairo, Egypt when she was 5 years old. Growing up in New York City as a Muslim girl she shares her upbringing in a country she oftentimes felt like an outsider. Especially post 9/11.
