    LIVING OUT THE WORD
The word "ensnare" is only found in this passage in the New Testament.
What do you make of the writer of Matthew's choice of this word? Is there a difference between "ensnare" and "catch unaware?"
What would have been the social or political consequences have been if Jesus simply said, "Pay Caesar?" or "Don't pay?"
In your life, what belongs to Caesar? To God?

    Matthew 22:15-22
A teaching about the emperor and God
22:15 Then the Pharisees went and plotted to entrap him in what he said.
22:16 So they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are sincere, and teach the way of God in accordance with truth, and show deference to no one, for you do not regard people with partiality.
22:17 Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to the Caesar, or not?"
22:18 But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, "Why are you putting me to the test, you hypocrites?
22:19 Show me the coin used for the tax." And they brought him a denarius.
22:20 Then he said to them, "Whose head is this and whose title?"
22:21 They answered, "Caesar's." Then he said to them, "Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's and to God the things that are God's."
22:22 When they heard this, they were amazed, and they left him and went away.

"In Conclusion" | Rev. Dr. Donovan Drake preaching | 10.11.26

    PHILIPPIANS 4:1-9

    Rejoice in the Lord always

4:1Therefore, my brothers and sisters, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, my beloved.

4:2I urge Euodia and I urge Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord.

4:3Yes, and I ask you also, my loyal companion, help these women, for they have struggled beside me in the work of the gospel, together with Clement and the rest of my coworkers, whose names are in the book of life.

4:4Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.

4:5Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near.

4:6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

4:7And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

4:8Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

4:9As for the things that you have learned and received and heard and noticed in me, do them, and the God of peace will be with you.
