#WeStNsPod - Sepsis

Listen Later

Welcome to WeStNsPod

In this episode, we learn about Sepsis from the perspectives of inspirational experts by experience Tom and Nicola Ray and Melissa Mead (MBE).

TRIGGER WARNING (TRAUMA & LOSS OF BABY DISCUSSED) The podcast features moving and important insights from our guest experts by experience

Tom is a sepsis survivor. We are honoured that he and his wife Nicola have taken the time to share their story and key messages they would like us as nursing students to hear...

We are also honoured to hear from Melissa who lost her baby son William to sepsis, her words are incredibly moving.  Tom, Nicola and Melissa each dedicate their time to raising awareness of Sepsis; we think their following words will speak for themselves...

One of the key stand out points from Tom and William' s story is family members asking for second opinions, feeling like a nuisance and raising repeated concerns. Family members know their loved ones and what is normal for them. This is clearly a huge learning point we can take with us as well as ensuring we follow care and sepsis pathways in practice.  Always ask could it be sepsis?

There is a linked tweetchat to this podcast where we learn more about the drivers for Sepsis care and what we as nursing students can do.  Please visit www.wecommunities.org to learn more.

We also have a second podcast on sepsis from Pippa Bagnall, director of http://www.resilienceand.co/ and whose nursing career has included being Director of Queen’s Nursing Institute, Head of Primary Care for London and Principal Advisor in the Prime Minister’s Office of Public Service Reform. Pippa works closely with Tom and Nicola Ray and adds great clinical insights to our Sepsis discussions.  You can find Pippa's podcast on the www.wecommunities.org
