Featured Segment:
You’re listening the WFHB Local News – your daily award-winning news program, produced by volunteers, right here in Bloomington. Each weekday at 5 p.m., we bring you local government coverage, in-depth feature reports and the latest community updates.
Community radio is rare. And stations with fully independent newsrooms like ours are even rarer. But to keep WFHB Local News strong, we need your support. Our goal for today’s broadcast is to raise $600. With cuts to public media, listener support has never been more important. Your donation ensures WFHB stays on the air, free from corporate control and political influence.
Call 812-323-1200 right now, or visit wfhb.org and click the red donate button. YOU are the heartbeat of community radio. Thank you for keeping WFHB – and your community news – alive and thriving.
Up next, we rebroadcast a feature report by WFHB Correspondent Elena Bai. Bai looks at Senate Enrolled Act 76, a new law passed by the Indiana General Assembly, requiring local entities to cooperate with federal immigration detainer requests. Stay tuned, Elena will be live in the studio with anchor Benedict Jones in light of our Spring Fund Drive.
Brynna Hardiman knows firsthand what everyday life is like for deaf people. Both of Brynna’s parents are deaf, so American Sign Language was her very FIRST language. Brynna’s mom teaches ASL at the high school Brynna went to, and together they started an ASL club there. In her sophomore year at Indiana University, she took over leadership of the American Sign Language Club at IU. All students are welcome and you don’t have to know any sign language at all, although you’ll probably learn pretty quickly. Brynna invites you to the next American Sign Language Club at IU meeting on a new episode of Activate!, coming your way right now on the WFHB Local News.
