This is the WFHB Local News for Monday, December 9th, 2024.
Later in the program, local journalist Dave Askins of the B Square Bulletin looks into the number of hours worked by Bloomington’s mayor. This has become a topic of conversation, in the context of the proposed salary ordinance for city elected officials in 2025. More in today’s feature report.
That’s Jeffrey Jackson, transportation demand manager for Go Bloomington. He’s aiming to lower emissions AND get low-income residents on affordable electric bicycles through the Bloomington e-bike voucher program. Learn more about the program later in the show on a new episode of Activate!

Monroe County Election Board
On December 5th at the Monroe County Election Board meeting, County Clerk Nicole Browne gave a summary of the Election and voter turnout.
Board President John Fernandez shared some things he wants to work on moving forward. He explained that there was an issue at the Indiana Memorial Union that was most likely due to a breakdown in communication.
Fernandez also thanked the county’s G-I-S staff for their work sharing election results. He also commented that he has some concerns regarding the vote reporting consulting business, An Island L-L-C.
He also commented on the future of the convention center and how that will affect the election locations in the future.
Next, representing the Vote Center Study Committee, Ami Gandhi, gave a report on the work they have been doing, and asked the board for more direction moving forward.
Gandhi emphasized that the committee was paying attention to guard against any issues that could arise from switching to a vote center model.
Clerk Browne said she was in support of Gandhi’s proposal.
Gandhi informed the board that the committee’s next meeting will be on December 11th.
Later in the meeting, Board Member Judith Bankert announced that she will be resigning from the board to focus on other efforts in the community.
The last item on the agenda was public comment. During public comment, Monroe County Resident Sheryll Langdon shared frustration that the police came to her home and were intimidating. Langdon also vented frustration with the county election staff and board members.
The Monroe County Election Board will meet again on January 2nd, 2025.
