Feature Reports:
In today’s broadcast, WFHB News Correspondent Max Schneider provides a rundown on campus and local news over the summer. Schneider covered the “No Kings” protest in Bloomington against the Trump administration’s controversial actions, including ICE raids and military parade spending. Also, the Indiana University Board of Trustees approved amendments to the expressive activity policy and debated a new trustee code of conduct. Lastly, the IU Provost rejected funding for the Indiana Daily Student, citing budget constraints. The student media emphasized their commitment to independent journalism and maintaining a constructive relationship with the university. Correspondent Max Schneider has more.
Indiana University operates about a half a dozen culture centers on the Bloomington campus, but a Muslim culture center is NOT one of them. Correspondent Alexis Carvajal talks with local Muslims who have been trying to change that for years and are still holding out hope. This special report was produced in partnership with The Media School at Indiana University.
Up next – Government.exe, a show that explains what’s happening in state government. Each episode focuses on a bill from the Indiana General Assembly. We interview experts in the fields these bills impact, asking for their insights on how the legislation could affect their work, what might have been the motivation behind this kind of legislation, and how it affects hoosiers. In the debut episode, Dr. Andrew Whitehead – associate professor of sociology at IUI, and author of “American Idolatry” gives us insight into Christian nationalism—how it brings together segments of Christianity, how it shapes views on the separation of church and state, its influence on legislation on reproductive health, and how its followers interpret the Constitution. We turn to Youth Radio Correspondent Shefar Rafiul for more.
