In today’s newscast, Correspondent Max Schneider speaks with Mike Arnold from Indiana Public Media about the ongoing fallout of federal and state budget cuts to public broadcasting.
You’ll also hear from Zach from Rotspot, a sober music venue in Bloomington that is shutting down. Zach vows to continue Rotspot as a no-drugs no-alcohol concert series later in the show in a feature report.
Featured Segments:
Last month local house show venue Rotspot held its last full-tilt rock show. As the tenants graduate and move out, show host Zach vows to continue Rotspot as a concert series, booking shows in different places in Bloomington like Harmony School. Rotspot held a special position in the Bloomington music scene as a strictly sober space – no drugs, no alcohol, no smoking allowed. Correspondent Emma Broach has that story in a feature report produced in partnership with The Media School at Indiana University.
Up next, we look at the ongoing fallout of federal and state budget cuts to public broadcasting. Following the elimination of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Bloomington’s public radio and television stations, WFIU and WTIU, recently downsized their operations, initiating a series of layoffs last month. In today’s featured interview, Correspondent Max Schneider speaks with Mike Arnold, executive director of Integrated Public Media at WFIU and WTIU, about the impact of federal CPB cuts and the future of Indiana Public Media.
WFHB reporters Aidan Verde and Elena Bai took to the streets of Bloomington earlier today to ask residents: “what keeps you in Bloomington?” Hear what people on Kirkwood Avenue had to say, coming up next on the WFHB Local News.
