In today’s newscast, we hear from Nathan Ferreira, Executive Director of the Bloomington Housing Authority about impacts to local housing projects from federal job cuts and funding freezes. More in today’s feature report.

Monroe County Election Board Moves Forward with Vote Center Study, Welcomes New Republican Member
The Monroe County Election board met on March 6th. Notably absent from the meeting was Republican Board Member, John Arnold, who at the last meeting, said they are opposed to vote centers. In their place, was the newly nominated Republican Board Member, Danny Shields. Democratic Board Member John Fernandez welcomed him to the board.
County Clerk Nicole Browne also welcomed Shields.
Shields explained that the new Republican Chair, Corey Grass, appointed him to the Election Board in the place of Arnold.
Starting off the meeting, Clerk Nicole Browne reported on recent legislation that could impact Indiana elections.
Clerk Browne also provided a quick update on the new Monroe County Democratic and Republican Party Elected Positions.
Next, the Vote Center Study Committee presented a final update on their report.
She walked through the steps necessary to establish vote centers in the committee, sharing what they have done, and what will be necessary to do moving forward.
Stonebraker said that the committee found vote centers could be beneficial for Monroe County voters, and recommended their approval. They also offered recommendations on early voting.
Stonebraker urged the Election Board to move forward with the next steps in a timely manner saying this is a golden time period since there is not a major election being held this year.
His microphone was experiencing technical difficulties, but he went on to say, “Probably not with option one, but there may be some other options, that thread the needle of improving access to democracy in a fair way with minimizing any costs.”
Election Supervisor Kylie Farris said that any equipment that is not used, can be used as backup equipment for the time when something inevitably stops working.

The board approved moving forward with a public hearing on the Vote Center Committee’s report. The next meeting of the Monroe County Election Board will be held on April 3rd.
