Ellettsville Town Council Considers Loosening Firearm Restrictions, Delays Water Rate Discussion Due to Technical Issues
The Ellettsville Town Council discussed amending the Ellettsville Town Code to allow the use of firearms within corporate city limits at their meeting on April 28th.
Council Member Scott Oldham says the code may be too restrictive. He said that different types of shooting and hunting might require different restrictions.
Council Member Trevor Sager agreed with Oldham, saying the council needs to think about how the restrictions will impact hunters.
The council agreed to have the ordinance adjusted before hearing it on second reading.
The council also discussed creating a cash fund for the Planning Department. Planning Director Denise Line said the department has never had its own fund, but it will need one soon.
Council Member William Ellis said he didn’t think it was necessary to establish a separate cash fund for the department.
The ordinance died on the floor without a motion.
The Ellettsville Town Council planned to discuss an ordinance establishing rates and charges relating to the Water Works System, but decided to table it two weeks because of issues with the meeting’s virtual Zoom platform. The council didn’t think it was fair to the public to not have an opportunity to give their input.
The council passed three amendments to the Employee Handbook: adding a policy prohibiting ghost employment, adding a grievance policy for complaints, and clarifying the retirement benefits policy. The Ellettsville Town Council will meet next on May 12th.
Ellettsville Redevelopment Commission Clarifies TIF Parcels, Begins Early Funding Discussions
The Ellettsville Redevelopment Commission met on Monday April 28th.
The Commission discussed some clarification coming to TIF parcel number descriptions. The Town Attorney Darla Brown gave background information on the TIF, which stands for Tax Increment Financing.
The Commision also began to discuss funding for each TIF, and how the funding would be broken down. At this point the TIFF funds are in early stages.
The next Ellettsville Redevelopment Commission meeting will be held on May 12th.
