April Hennessey Wins District 2 School Board Seat
April Hennessey topped Incumbent Sue Wnazer in the election for the District 2 seat on the Monroe County Community School Board.
According to Hennesy’s campaign website Hennessy was an educator at Bloomington HIgh School North from 2013 to 2018, where she taught a range of skill leveled english courses.
Hennessey ran against incumbent Sue Wanzer who has held a seat on the MCCSC School board since 2001. There are no term limits for School Board seats. Hennessey spoke with WFHB during a BloomingOut interview about the need for a change of perspective.
One large campaigning point for Hennesy was to ensure equity. She focused on inequality in the school system from the experience of both the students and the faculty.
Hennessy ran a platform which also focused on socio-emotional learning, trauma-informed teaching, and community-school integration. Hennesy explained how her experience as an educator and then as a mother over many school districts would help inform her decisions and work towards equity.
Other Incumbents Cathy Fuentes-Rohwer and Jacinda Townsend Gides beat their opponents and will maintain their School Board seats. Incumbent Keith Klein ran unopposed.
