Indiana continues to break a number of Covid-19 records. The State Department of Health reported over 4,200 new cases today.

That’s just about the state’s average, which is at a record high. The state health department reported today that 34 more Hoosiers lost their lives to Covid-19.

As the country sees its highest Covid-19 numbers to date, more people in Indiana are dying because of the virus than at any other time since mid-May.

The other main concern in the state is the record number of hospitalizations due to Covid. Hospitalizations are approaching 2,200 people, over 500 of those people are in intensive care.

Locally, Monroe County is averaging over 50 new cases per day, and its positivity among unique individuals is almost at 10 percent. That means that the county public schools may stop in-person classes.

Statewide, almost 2,300 new school cases of Covid-19 were reported, about seventy percent of those cases were students. Bloomington High School South has reported almost 20 cases so far, while North has reported 10.

Brown County broke its single day record for new cases with 13, Morgan county came close, with 47, and the other surrounding counties saw between 5 and 20 cases.

Last week, Indiana University reported 115 new cases of Covid-19 at its Bloomington Campus alone. That’s about a 15 percent increase in new cases from the previous week.

So far, the university has reported that 3,361 people have contracted Covid-19 at its Bloomington campus.

Kamala Harris now becomes the first woman and the first woman of color to hold the office of Vice President.

However, she said she would not be the last woman to be elected to the vice presidency.

"But while I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last," said Harris.

The B-Square Beacon reported that around 250 people gathered on the courthouse lawn to celebrate the results of the presidential election.
