Monroe County Election Board
At the Monroe County Election Board meeting on October 3rd, Clerk Nicole Browne began by sharing important days for the public to be aware of.
Browne also shared a press release that they sent out regarding four early voting ballot printing errors, and the remedied solution.
The Monroe County Election Board will meet again on December 5th.
County Attorney Jeff Cockerill updated the Monroe County Commissioners on the Vernal Pike site for the Monroe County Jail at their meeting on October 2nd. Cockerill said VET Environmental needs to do a wetlands report on the property.
Vernal Pike is the second option to the North Park property for the new jail. In September, Commissioner Julie Thomas said the Vernal Pike property was out of contention because it would require testing, reports and annexation. However, the City is continuing to hold the site as an option.
Cockerill said that the property needs to be tested before November, or it will have to be pushed back until the spring.
The costs of the tests will be $7,464.48. Cockerill proposed the test funding be considered an emergency item.
The commissioners will host a meeting for Vernal Pike area residents to hear concerns and talk about plans at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, at Detmer Park shelter.
Thomas reminded everyone that early voting begins October 8. She emphasized the importance of voting, especially in this election.
If you need a mail-in-ballot, contact the Clerk’s Office. Election day is Tuesday, November 5.
The next Monroe County Commissioners meeting will be on October 9.
