WFHB Rewind – May 21, 2025

Listen Later

On Monday, April, 21st, 2025 WFHB’s music department welcomed two time Grammy nominated artist and Mandolin virtuoso, Sierra Hull. Sierra and Music Director and Host, Abby Noroozi chatted about the new album, A Tip Toe High Wire and self releasing after being on Rounder Records since she was 13. They chatted about influences, evolving Bluegrass, touring, and more. We turn now to that interview and a little bit of that performance on WFHB Rewind.

In this episode of ShowRats from WFHB’s Youth Radio, host Ollie spoke with Andrew Sellers of Louisville based post-punk band Charm School about his musical journey and early influences like Sonic Youth and Nirvana. Andrew points out challenges of being a musician in the modern music industry, particularly the low pay from streaming platforms, and offers advice for young musicians to develop additional skills in recording, graphic design, or DJing to support their musical careers.

Monroe County’s thriving coffee scene includes over 15 local shops and roasters, such as Brown County Coffee Company and Hopscotch Coffee. Brown County Coffee, founded in 2006 by Nick Schultz, has roasted over a million pounds of coffee, emphasizing freshness and affordability. Hopscotch Coffee, established in 2013 by Jeff Grant, focuses on local roasting and community engagement. Both businesses face challenges from rising coffee prices, driven by supply issues in major growing regions and tariffs. Despite these challenges, they remain committed to providing high-quality, fresh coffee and supporting their communities. WFHB Correspondent Laurie Frederickson has more.
