According to Matthew, after calling Peter and Andrew to be disciples, Jesus calls James and John, and they leave their fishing immediately and follow him. Zebedee, their father, is left in the fishing boat. Although the Gospel of Mathew does not tell us what happens with Zebedee at that point, we can imagine a number of possibilities. What if one of them is that Zebedee, too, is called, not to be one of the twelve, but to play a vitally important support role? What if we, too, who have long looked in on this scene, are actually called by Jesus?
