A lot of people are curious about what they should do following the Advanced Certified Scrum Master (A-CSM) course. John McFadyen walks us through some of his recommendations in this short video.
Many people think that a new certification and course is the best next step after the course but I would advise differently.
The Advanced Certified Scrum Master course was designed as a bridge between the Certified Scrum Master (CSM) course and the Certified Scrum Professional Scrum Master (CSP-SM) course.
It serves as a stepping stone in your skills development as a Scrum Master and marks the transition from #scrum practitioner to #scrum professional and #agilecoach.
There is a lot of new information that is delivered via the Advanced Certified Scrum Master course as well as new skills, tools, and techniques in the spheres of coaching and facilitation.
You would be best served by actively practicing these new skills, tools, and techniques for at least a year before looking to upskill and continue on your certification path.
Context matters a great deal in the #scrumalliance certification pathways and it's important that you embed the knowledge and spend a great deal of time actively practicing your craft before looking to progress to the next level.
For this reason, the Scrum Alliance actively recommend that you have at least one years' experience as a Certified Scrum Master before attending the Advanced Certified Scrum Master course and a further one year experience as an Advanced Certified Scrum Master course before attending the Certified Scrum Professional Scrum Master course.
An Advanced Scrum Master straddles the line between Scrum Master and Agile coach and you will need to develop your coaching skills before having an opportunity to have your skills validated as a Certified Scrum Professional.
I would actively recommend that you work on your coaching and facilitation skills a great deal before attending the Certified Scrum Professional Scrum Master course.
We provide a recommended reading list for graduates from the Advanced Certified Scrum Master course and you will want to invest in learning new techniques, insights, and tools from the books we recommend.
Getting great at anything takes time and if you use your time wisely, you are going to be perfectly positioned to thrive as both a power Scrum Master as well as an Agile Coach.
