  • Episode 8 | Postpartum Support

Everyone has an opinion about postpartum… but not everyone has walked that walk. 👀

The fourth trimester is a whole different kind of vulnerable. You’re healing, learning your baby, navigating hormones, figuring out who you are in this new season, and somehow still managing everyone else’s expectations.

    So let’s talk about it.

The visitors who expect to be entertained. The unsolicited advice. The people who make your postpartum experience about themselves. The boundaries that sound so simple until you’re the one having to enforce them.

And the kind of support that actually makes a difference.

Because there’s a big difference between wanting to meet a baby and wanting to support a mother. 👏🏼

In this week’s episode of What Are We Doing?, we’re getting into all of it: the good, the uncomfortable, the expectations, and the reality that sometimes you truly don’t understand postpartum until you’ve lived it.

🎙️ NEW EPISODE OUT MONDAY AT 5 AM CENTRAL!

What’s one thing you wish people understood about supporting a postpartum mom? We want to hear it. 👇🏼

  • Episode 7 l Becca’s Hospital Births

Before Becca was a homebirth midwife, she was a mom having babies in the hospital—and this week, we’re going all the way back.

Becca walks us through all three of her hospital birth stories, and somehow this may be one of our funniest episodes yet.

From fully gaslighting herself into believing she definitely was NOT in labor, to postpartum hemorrhage, the things she knows now that she definitely didn’t know then, and plenty of moments that had us absolutely losing it, these stories give you a very different side of Becca.

We talk about what she remembers from each birth, what she would do differently knowing what she knows now, and how her own experiences as a patient ultimately influenced the way she thinks about birth and cares for women today.

Three hospital births. A future homebirth midwife. A whole lot of hindsight.

  • The Mothers Who Changed Me

The Mothers Who Changed Me | Becca’s Story from Afghanistan

Some experiences don’t just teach you—they change the way you see everything that comes after.

In this episode, Becca takes us to Afghanistan’s Panjshir Valley, where she spent time volunteering with Breech Without Borders at a birth clinic and learning alongside the women and birth workers caring for mothers in their community.

She walks us through how the opportunity came about, what it was like preparing to travel to Afghanistan, and the moments of very real fear and uncertainty before she ever got on the plane. Then we get into what happened once she arrived—the clinic, the births, the differences in resources and maternal care, and the realities of supporting women giving birth in a place very different from home.

But more than anything, this episode is about the mothers.

The women Becca met, the births she witnessed, and the experiences that challenged what she thought she knew about birth, motherhood, resilience, and what women are capable of.

This isn’t an episode about going somewhere to “save” anyone. It’s a story about going somewhere to learn—and coming home changed by the women who allowed you into some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.

  • Paige’s Homebirth Stories

    Episode 5 | Paige’s Home Birth Stories

    This week, we’re getting personal.

Paige walks us through both of her home births—the decisions, the expectations, the hard parts, the moments that challenged her, and what those experiences ultimately taught her about birth.

We talk about something that doesn’t always get said out loud: when choosing home birth can start to feel like you have something to prove. Is it ego? Is it confidence in your decision? Is it wanting to show the people who questioned you that birth really can look different? And where’s the line between trusting the process and holding too tightly to the outcome you envisioned?

Then there’s the birth that included 5.5 hours of pushing—which opens up an entirely different conversation: Why are we in such a hurry to give birth? What happens when birth takes longer than expected? And how do we balance giving birth time with recognizing when intervention may actually be necessary?

These aren’t perfect birth stories wrapped up with a bow. They’re Paige’s stories—and an opportunity to talk honestly about the physical, emotional, and mental realities of choosing home birth.

Whether you’ve had a home birth, would never consider one, or are simply curious about what it can actually look like… come hear the whole story.

  • What Does Midwifery Care Actually Look Like?

Episode 3 | What Does Midwifery Care Actually Look Like?

One of the biggest misconceptions we hear is that choosing a home birth means skipping prenatal care. The reality? Home birth clients typically see their Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) just as often as they would an OB—and sometimes spend significantly more time at each visit.

In this episode, we’re breaking down what prenatal care with a CPM actually looks like. We cover visit frequency, what happens during appointments, conversations around nutrition, movement, supplements, preparing for birth, and why having time to ask questions can make all the difference.

We also answer some of the questions we get asked most often:

✨ Do home birth midwives order labs?

    ✨ What about ultrasounds?

✨ What fetal monitoring is done?

✨ What does postpartum care look like?

And if there’s one thing we hope you take away from this episode, it’s understanding what truly makes the midwifery model of care unique. Whether you’re planning a hospital birth, birth center birth, or home birth, knowing your options empowers you to make informed decisions that are right for you and your family.

  • Why Community Care Matters

Episode 3 | Why Community Care Matters

Healthcare was never meant to happen in isolation.

In this episode, we’re diving into the power of community care, what it means, why it matters, and how collaboration between providers can create better outcomes for the families we serve.

We discuss the difference between community care and collaborative care, what true collaboration looks like in practice, and why having a trusted referral network benefits everyone involved—especially patients.

Whether you’re a chiropractor, midwife, doula, lactation consultant, physician, therapist, or another healthcare professional, we also share practical ideas for finding like-minded providers, building meaningful professional relationships, and creating a community that puts patients first.

At the end of the day, no one provider has to do it all. When we respect each other’s roles, communicate well, and work together, everyone wins.

  • How We Got Here

Episode 2 | How We Got Here

How does a chiropractor end up choosing home birth? What inspires someone to become a Certified Professional Midwife? And what did our husbands, family, and friends think when we shared our plans?

In this episode, we’re pulling back the curtain on the personal experiences that shaped our views on birth. We talk about what led one of us to choose home birth, the journey to earning the CPM credential, and the reactions we received from the people closest to us.

We also want to be clear: this isn’t about convincing anyone that home birth is for everyone. Every pregnancy and birth is unique, and our goal isn’t to tell you what to choose. It’s to share our stories, encourage respectful conversations, and empower women to make informed decisions that feel right for them alongside qualified healthcare providers.

Whether you’re simply curious, considering your options, or just want to hear how we each got here, we’re so glad you’re listening.
