After Jesus had become indignant when His disciples were rebuking people who were bringing children to Jesus, He then says that you must become like a child to enter the Kingdom of God. Now in the passage for our consideration, a rich young man, said to be in a ruler position, comes to Jesus asking the wrong question. "What must I do to inherit eternal life?" How will Jesus answer him?

We are getting back to marching through and with Mark. Here we see Jesus teach about marriage and divorce. The Pharisees try to trap Him with their question, but Jesus takes them back to what God has said and done from the beginning.

Last week we looked at the Old Testament passage that tells of the coming of the Child born and the Son given who would have the government on His shoulders. Today we looked at the fulfillment of that prophecy as recorded in Luke. It is fulfilled. It is true. Jesus Christ the Lord is born. And not only did the shepherds hear and see, so you have also!

Jesus takes sin seriously. He takes it seriously when you cause others to stumble. And He takes it seriously when you stumble. He goes so far to say that it is better to cut off body parts that cause you to stumble. Because sin is serious and hell is a serious place where you will go if you continue to stumble. Do not stumble into hell where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched. Cut off your foot and limp into the arms of Jesus.
