Is there pain in your life?
Pain tells us that something is wrong and where we need to focus. However, we typically ignore physical and emotional pain until we are unable to function.
It is estimated that 1 in 5 Americans live with chronic pain - but an even larger number of individuals ignore pain every day that could easily be taken care of if treated on a physical and emotional level.
In today's episode, Sheryl discusses how we often live with physical pain for fear of discovering something horribly wrong when the treatment could be simple and short. In the same manner she explores how we often hold onto emotional pain for fear of addressing it and turn to buffering activities such as over eating, drinking, shopping and withdrawing.
Pain and discomfort are going to occur in our lives but when they become a part of our daily functioning we are not addressing what is screaming for attention. Not addressing the physical pain could eventually lead to a terminal diagnosis that could have been caught with a simple surgery in the beginning. Not addressing the emotional pain of an unhappy relationship or unsatisfying career can lead to chronic depression and opportunities never explored.
Come learn the importance of listening to your pain.
