What can bees tell us about the health of our environment?

The Exchange visits with scientists and internationally known authors Dr. Dewey Caron, an emeritus professor of entomology and wildlife ecology at the University of Delaware and an affiliate professor in the department of horticulture at OSU, and Dr. Ramesh Sagili, professor of apiculture at OSU college of agricultural sciences in the department of horticulture.

Drs. Caron and Sagili discuss their honey bee research, the Oregon Master Beekeeper Program and OSU's Honey Bee Lab. Topics include how critical honey bees are to own food supply, pollination, beekeeping, threats to honey bee health and honey bee nutrition.

The Oregon Master Beekeeper Program is a "cooperative effort between Oregon State University and the Oregon State Beekeepers Association" focused on "the health of honey bee colonies and the integrity of the practice of beekeeping throughout the region."

The Honey Bee Lab, works in collaboration with beekeepers and farmers, focuses on three areas to promote bee health and enhance pollination: health, nutrition, and pollination.
