Imagine lying in bed in the early morning hours, and you hear a phone vibrate. You look over and see your wife’s phone getting a notification. So you open it to see who is texting her in the middle of the night and your heart drops as you open a text thread between her and another man. Not just friendly chatting, but full of all the endearing words that you have ever shared between yourself and her.
Imagine that pain. That deep guttural feeling of betrayal. The argument, the yelling and screaming that ensues next.
Now imagine once the dust settles. What would you do next? Would you pack your bags and be gone forever, blaming your wife for destroying your marriage, your future together, and your life? No doubt you’d have plenty of friends in your corner giving you that exact advice and filling your ears with validation that leaving is the right thing to do.
Today’s guest experienced just that. He felt the betrayal and the pain. He jumped into the heated argument and all the yelling. He had no shortage of friends telling him to leave his wife and never look back.
But he didn’t walk away. He did the one thing that we as men are called to do at so many hard points in our lives. He looked inside. He battled himself to figure out what was in his control. What had he done, what had he not done, how had he failed in his role as a husband and leader of his family to the point that led his wife to seek validation and connection in another man?
And by making the hard choice and taking ownership, he rose up from his failures as a husband and as a man to become someone worthy of all his wife’s love.
G. Vidal is an amazing man and friend who has been married for almost 13 years to his beautiful wife and is now the proud father of two children. Through the lessons he learned in his own life, he has set himself to the task of helping other dads to determine what they can control and to take ownership of their own lives and level up as husbands, fathers, and men through his coaching business, Alpha Dad Consulting.
G. leads men in their journeys along the four pillars of Creed, Form, Tribe, and Wages. He also has a podcast called the Alpha Dad Consulting Podcast where he interviews men who are living life well as Good Men, and are helping other men to grow in all areas of life.
