Growing Scrum Masters

What do you do if the team aren't using user stories for backlog items?

Listen Later

Part 41 of our #scrummaster #interviewquestions series where John McFadyen answers common questions asked of scrum masters and #agilecoaches in interviews and client engagements.

In #scrum, the founders of the framework wanted a #productowner, or person best suited to analyze the use case of the work to be done, to create what is known as a user story to inform developers of what needs to be done, how it solves a specific problem or allows a customer to get a specific job done, and why it is an important element of customer satisfaction.

This is a critical element of the product owner role according to Agile purists yet isn't considered that important amongst agile practitioners and agile coaches who work with teams to find the best way of working in the context of their environment and application.

In this short video, John McFadyen explains why user stories are great to have but aren't necessarily the only way to communicate what is needed, why it is needed, and how the value created will be consumed by the customer or end user.
