With less than a month until we leave the EU, Ploughing Through Brexit podcast is back, in association with AHDB. We're kicking off with a discussion on the recently published Defra Agricultural Transition Plan. The plan will see a move away from direct payments to other sources of funding over a seven-period, but has Defra done enough modelling on how the future policy will affect the farming industry?
Farm leaders have criticised the plan for its failure to set out details on future payment rates which can prevent businesses from preparing for the loss of direct support and whether it considers the needs of upland farmers.
With many questions surrounding the plan, we speak to Janet Hughes, Defra’s Programme Director for Future Farming and Countryside, Sarah Baker, Strategic Insight Manager at AHDB and Dr Julia Aglionby to explore how AHDB can support the industry as it moves into the post-Brexit era.
