In this live stream we're going over the Depp v. Heard settlement which just reportedly happened. What exactly did they just settle, and what does it mean?
FOR CONTEXT:
This was a defamation case between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Johnny Depp sued Amber Heard for defamation stemming from her Op Ed published in The Washington Post in 2018. Amber Heard then counter-sued for defamation claims based on statements made by Johnny Depp's former lawyer. The trial took place in Fairfax, Virginia, the proper venue as The Washington Post is headquartered in said location. Presiding was Judge Penny Azcarate, Johnny Depp was represented by Ben Chew, Camille Vasquez, and more. Amber Heard was represented by Elaine Bredehoft, Ben Rottenborn, and more.
After the jury returned a $10.3 million verdict in favor of Depp and a $2 million verdict in favor of Heard, both parties are appealing to the Virginia Court of Appeals.
