Christ does not set us free merely so that we can say the chains are gone. He sets us free so that a new life can begin.

In this devotion, Romans 6 shows us what freedom starts to produce in the believer. The heart begins to turn towards God, the direction of life changes, obedience replaces resistance, and the fruit of holiness begins to grow.

Obedience does not purchase our freedom. Christ has already secured it. Obedience is the pathway along which the freed believer now walks, as the life of Christ becomes increasingly visible.

The question is not only, “What has Christ freed me from?” but “What is Christ freeing me to become?”
