This morning we continue in our study through the book of Hosea as we consider Hosea 6:1-11. God tells his people, "Your love is like a morning cloud, like the dew that goes early away" (Hosea 6:4b). He later says, "For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings" (Hosea 6:6). God desires steadfast love and the knowledge of God, but the people don’t have it. 

In order to ultimately reveal his love, God sent his son Jesus to die on behalf of his people. Jesus is the one who was torn to pieces, that all who place their faith in him would be healed. Jesus is the one who was raised on the third day that all those who believe in him would live in his presence and enjoy communion with God. While we don't have the resources within ourselves, our ability to love God and others is a gift of God's grace in response to his love for us. When the steadfast love of God grips you, our "morning cloud" love becomes rooted, and grounded in God himself and the finished work of Jesus. May the love of God and the invitation to know God motivate us to do what he desires. He desires steadfast love and mercy. He desires us to walk in joyful, loving communion with him that overflows in love for others.
