Hi Struggling, I'm Dad!

What ‘Good Enough’ Should Actually Mean for Your Kids

Listen Later

What does “good enough” actually mean for a child?

Is it winning? Is it trophies? Is it success on paper?

Or is it effort, character, integrity, and how they live every day?

In this episode, I talk about the responsibility parents have when teaching kids how to measure themselves — not just by outcomes, but by who they are becoming.

We explore:

-Why “good enough” is subjective — and why that matters

-The danger of tying love and approval to winning

-What hyper-competitive environments get wrong

-The difference between effort, growth, and complacency

-Why unconditional love must never be earned

I also reflect on examples like elite sport, cultural definitions of success, and stories where achievement came at the cost of connection — and what that teaches our kids long term.

This isn’t about participation trophies.

And it’s not about lowering standards.

It’s about teaching kids to:

Win well

Lose well

Work hard

Live with integrity

And know they are loved regardless

Because raising "successful" kids isn’t the same as raising good people — and being a good person matters more.

If you’re a parent trying to balance discipline, ambition, love, and character — this episode is for you.
