One of the steps that the Human Rights Commission proposes to prevent a recurrence of the 2021 unrest, is a call on all South Africans to sign a pledge to take part in a programme called Social Harmony through National Effort. It involves steps by ordinary people within our communities and the work place, in our daily encounters to foster discussion and understanding of each other. This brings us to the question of national unity. How could so many people unite in doing wrong by destroying businesses and infrastructure?
