Talking Saves Lives:
Someone asked me the other day how to get started with the VA system. He asked if he should just go down to the VA office with his DD-214 and get started. I told him that would work, but I started online at VA.gov.
It took me a long time to finally do it. I think I just didn’t want to go through any bs. But it turned out to be the best decision. Not only did I get help for some of the problems I was having, but they eventually got me the surgery I needed to walk. Of course, there is always set backs and hiccups. The VA System is a little different from place to place, but the one thing I have always found was people who care about the patients, and they appreciate you. I know they put up with a lot from people, so I do admire their tenacity and dedication.
I remind myself as well as everyone who listens – talking saves lives.
Remember that your thoughts are just thoughts. You can change your thoughts.
