What is Americana Music? It’s not just American music.. That would be called, “American music. Americana means Free-form radio and that means the freedom to play what you want. For a DJ in 1975, that was impossible.. Until the original Americana station, KFAT 94.5 in Gilroy, California went on-air.

 

Back then, DJ’s were told what to play by corporate owners trying to maximize profit. Playlists were repetitive and boring. KFAT was different, DJ’s played what they wanted and it was outrageously diverse audio from all over the world. Turns out, listeners really liked the diversity as well. 

 

Americana Free-form Radio means the Freedom to play what you want… and that’s about as American as it gets. KORC Music and Civics, for a civilization that appreciates real freedom.
