The image of depression is typically dark and evocative. Descriptive words that I often heard include: walking in darkness, desperately alone, ongoing emptiness, stuck in the black hole, exhausting, etc. Perhaps King David of the Bible in his words described the depths of suffering someone with depression might experience today in Psalm 31:9-10, "...I am distress. Tears blur my eyes. My body and soul are withering away. I am dying from grief..."
