What Is Gambling?

Black Women's Health Alliance aims to prevent gambling addiction across the lifespan, creating gambling awareness programming for everyone from children to seniors. In this podcast, BWHA has partnered with local Philadelphia college students studying "Health &amp; Societies" to discuss gambling. After reading sociological, psychological, historical, and public health research on gambling in the U.S. and reflecting on what they have seen around them, the college students share what they have learned in five episodes:Episode 1. What To Do? A 9-minute episode reviewing research on harm-reduction and “human-centered” approaches to decreasing problematic and pathological gambling in the U.S. The episode considers the strengths and limitations of approaches that target individual gamblers, like therapy, and public health approaches targeting whole populations, like setting machine limits in casinos. ~ with Will Han, Gabi Ryu, and Michael Wang
