It is a federal law that aims to prevent sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the patient's consent or knowledge. Privacy rule, Security rule, and Breach notification rule. HIPAA regulations are applicable to healthcare providers, health plans, and their associations that handle protected health information (PHI).
