What does it mean to say someone is smart and how do we measure intelligence?
The offhand evaluation of a person’s relative amount of knowledge or ability is a common occurrence across cultures, but one struggle both philosophers and scientists have endured is that of figuring out just how to measure intelligence in a standardized fashion. In this episode, we explore the practices and pitfalls experienced when trying to measure how intelligent a given person is and the way IQs have been developed, implemented, and destroyed. We question whether it is a universal factor we can quantify or a cultural construct allowing us to direct people’s paths in life. What do you think?
