More Than The Score

What is it really like to be a video assistant referee?

Listen Later

The use of video technology in football has become one of the biggest talking points in the game. There isn't a weekend that goes by without a controversial VAR decision in the English Premier League. So how tough is it to be behind those screens on a matchday when you have seconds to make a decision that you know will make headlines around the world?

Graham Scott was a referee for 10 years in the English top flight before later stepping away from the pitch to become one of the video assistant referees for the Premier League. He explains to John Bennett how VAR officials cope with pressure. Graham also discusses what it's like to see the head of the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), Howard Webb, dissect your decision on television every week and why more must be done to protect young officials at recreational level.
