What Is Salvation? The first point to understand about salvation is that it is a gift from God by faith, not of works lest anyone can boast (Ephesians 2:8-9). The second point is that Salvation can only come from God. The illustration given with the rich young ruler tells us that it would be easier for a man to go through the eye of a literal sewing needle than it would for man to find salvation in works. Jesus is the only salvation to get to God. (Luke 18; John 14:6)

Soteriology is the study of salvation. The word salvation comes from the Greek root word "sozo". The root word means to save. The word savior comes from the same Greek word "soter". The Greek word for salvation is soteria. The next Greek word that you may see is "soterion" that means to be saved or rescued from destruction. The idea behind all of these words is that God delivers out of danger and brings believers into safety. God saves us from the Power of sin, Penalty of sin and in the future from the presence of sin in a glorified body. We enter into God’s provision. The term S.O.S. comes from the word "sozo".

There are two points about salvation: One that it is a finished work for the world for as many that will come to answer God’s invitation. Second is that it is to be answered from an individual’s stand point. The individual answer is crucial in order to place them into a state of salvation through regeneration in Christ. There is no other salvation outside of Christ. Christ is the only sacrifice for sin.
