The speed rating of a tyre identifies the speed range (or speed category) at which the tyre can support a load under specific service conditions. The current speed rating system was created in Europe in response to the requirement to regulate the tire’s safe operation at defined speeds. A tire’s certified speed rating, which ranges from 5 km/h (3 mph) to more than 300 km/h, is represented by a letter from A to Z. (186 mph). The maximum speed that a tyre is approved for is described by the rating system.
In the absence of a service description, check with the tyre manufacturer to determine the maximum speed.
