What is The Current Cost of Living Crisis - Has it Impacted Business?

Listen Later

The MPC has just increased interest rates for the 12th time in a row putting us at a base rate of 4.5% the highest since 2008 and, with that, it seems like the current cost of living crisis may never end. But don’t fear, Dawn and Tracy are here to break it all down for you. This week the ladies take a hard look at the crisis. Is it as bad as we think? Is it really a new thing? And how can you help yourself during these times?

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is causing the current cost of living crisis, is it Covid? The war in Ukraine? Or is it, just the cycle of economics repeating itself again. The ladies discuss this and how, as a business owner, you should be aware of this cycle.
  • What is the effect of this crisis on mortgage rates? Dawn discussed her two rental properties and how her mortgages have doubled. She is troubled as she will have to pass some of this cost onto her tenants, but will that mean they will move out? Will more people across the country be left without a home? Is there any way to avoid this?
  • How much does your relationship with money and your mindset affect how you see the current cost of living crisis? Dawn reminisces about her life in the 80’s when she lived in sheltered accommodation and had to care for herself and two children with only income support to help her. She credits her relationship with money and a positive mindset for helping her get through those hard times.
  • What things can we do to help ourselves? Cooking is one. The ladies talk about the increase in grocery prices and how people need to be both mindful of how they are shopping, but also, how they need to learn and adapt to new ways. Instead of buying ready meals why not look at buying fresh fruit and vegetables and learn how to cook.

BEST MOMENTS

“When is comes to the cost of living, I refuse to let it impact my life”

“You only ever see the impact on your own life. Take a moment to look at others and see if you can help them.”

“The term ‘Cost of living Crisis’ was created by the press. The real crisis is how it's impacting your life.”
