After a physically exhausting week leading one of their community’s yearly outreaches, Cameron and Dr. J sit down to have a conversation about what’s going on inside of us. No, this won’t be anatomical lesson. We’re not thinking of Cupid’s hearts or what you might find on a deck of cards. Yet, Scripture speaks so frequently about our hearts. Stepping into a church, you might hear a pastor invite you to accept Jesus into your heart. What is going on here? What are they talking about? In this week’s episode, Cameron and Dr. J tackle these questions, as well as take a look at some other church traditions and sayings and the meaning behind them.
55 — What does it mean to pray in Jesus’ name?
24 — In Nehemiah 8:5, the priest Ezra gathered the people who had rebuilt Jerusalem’s wall for the reading of God’s law: “Ezra opened the book. All the people could see him because he was standing above them; and as he opened it, the people all stood up.” Should we stand when the Bible is read?
54 — What are some common things people think are in the Bible that are not actually in the Bible?
43 — Is it biblical to ask Jesus into your heart? Like, where does that idea come from?
46 — Is there a different way we should be communicating what it means to invite Jesus into our hearts?
51 — What is the heart?
05 — What does it mean to guard your heart?
38 — In a recent sermon, you shared the story of David and Absalom. I have a question about that relationship, but perhaps you could give us a quick summary first?
20 — Obviously Absalom had a difference of opinion in leadership styles. And, I think we encounter this still often today—both inside and outside the church, right? I guess, a question for us is: when should we remove ourselves from someone’s leadership?
46 — How do we hold onto what is good and right and true and still guard our hearts?
47 — What do we do if we have become desensitized to the things of God? How do we bring our hearts back to God?
