WHAT IS THE NEXT THING. A PROPHETIC PERSPECTIVE.

Listen Later

As Jesus taught, "No one puts new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skin, and both the wine and the skins will be ruined" (Mark 2:22). This parable highlights the need for new containers – or in this context, new mindsets – to receive and preserve the fresh, transformative work of God.

Our mindset, thought system, and outlook on life serve as the containers where we process and respond to God's guidance. It's the framework that informs our decisions and actions. As followers of Christ, it's crucial that we continually examine and renew our minds to align with God's plans and purposes.

Before Jesus' ascension, His disciples asked Him if He would restore the kingdom to Israel at that time (Acts 1:6). Jesus' response might have seemed disappointing to their expectations, but it revealed God's next step for His people:

"You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8). This exchange illustrates how our limited understanding can lead us to focus on outdated or misguided ideas.

When we fail to grasp what God wants to do next, we risk becoming stagnant and ineffective. We might "tabernacle" around an idea that was once relevant but is no longer applicable to our current season. This can lead to spiritual complacency and a disconnection from God's ongoing work.

To avoid stagnation and stay aligned with God's purposes, we must cultivate a clear understanding of His plans and desires. This requires a willingness to adapt, learn, and grow, ensuring that our mindset and actions remain relevant to the current season.

As the apostle Paul wrote, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will" (Romans 12:2).
