In our recent Admin Mastermind session, Joshua Stamper and Katie Miglin delved into the pressing issue of staffing shortages affecting schools and districts across the country. The conversation highlighted the profound impact of these shortages, from the struggle to fill leadership positions in remote schools to the need for e-learning days due to insufficient staff coverage. We also discussed the challenges posed by teachers and administrators going on leave for health reasons, exacerbating an already strained system.

To address these shortages, administrators shared various strategies they have implemented. These include leveraging programs like Teach For America, local regions agencies, Principal Associations, and emergency certification options offered by the state. Additionally, some districts have received recruitment grants from the US Department of Education, while others have reassigned specialists to fill teaching positions temporarily. However, participants emphasized the need for easier transfer of certifications across states to facilitate recruitment efforts and alleviate the burden on administrators during staffing shortages.
