What Is Truth? – John 18:33-40

Listen Later

In this episode of Reformed Devotionals Daily, we step into one of the most profound moments in Jesus’ trial—His conversation with Pontius Pilate. The Roman governor asks, “Are you the King of the Jews?” but Jesus redirects the discussion, revealing that His kingdom is not of this world. He has not come to rule by force but to bear witness to the truth.

Pilate’s famous response, “What is truth?”, echoes through history. He does not wait for an answer. Instead, he turns away and offers the crowd a choice: Jesus or Barabbas. The people choose the guilty man over the innocent King.

Join us as we explore:

🔹 Why Jesus’ kingdom operates differently from worldly power
🔹 How Pilate’s question exposes our own struggle with truth
🔹 Why the crowd’s choice of Barabbas reflects the human heart

At the heart of this passage lies the grace of substitution—Jesus remains silent while a criminal walks free. This is the gospel in action. The innocent takes the place of the guilty, so that sinners like us can be redeemed.
