Joshua sought to know whether the person in front of him was for or against him. We like Joshua also make binary choices as to our friends and foes. To Joshua’s amazement, he confronted the One who did not choose sides, but must be chosen in order to get the victory. Once Joshua got a revelation of who stood before him, he worshipped and took off his sandals. Just like Moses, he stood on holy ground in the presence of the Holy One. We should not expect the LORD to take up our cause, we should follow Him into battle.
