Lyricist Glenn Slater takes us backstage to teach us how musicals are made. Glenn has written the lyrics to the songs in some of the most popular Broadway musicals, animated movies and television shows of all time--including Disney’s Tangled; The Little Mermaid; Sister Act; School of Rock; and many others. He has won a Grammy, an Emmy, and been nominated for three Tony awards, and often collaborates with heavyweight composers like Alan Mencken and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Glenn takes us through the process of writing a song, step by step, and explains why balance and variety are key. He addresses the question: which comes first, the music or the lyrics? And he shares where and how he finds his inspiration (it sometimes comes at 4:00 in the morning after poring through a very-old thesaurus for hours--or days!).
