As humans, we are all so concerned about going here and going there. Doing this or doing that. It is our nature to speed things up, check things off our "to-do" list, and get those daily tasks accomplished otherwise we have completely and utterly failed for the day. Not only does this not really help with focusing on being "in the present moment" we also tend to be checked out of reality in a sense, because we are so busy "getting things done." The day passes us by and we forget to give ourselves a little bit of compassion and grace and feel gratitude towards the things we did get accomplished throughout the day.
SO....what if we challenged ourselves a bit and focused on BEING instead of GOING and DOING all of the time? What if we challenged ourselves to do all the things we have to do on our daily to-do list and SLOW down the process in a more impactful way? What else is possible? What amazing things will show up, and what will pop up into our awareness that we otherwise wouldn't have considered before?
I've been part of this amazing group challenge called 75 SLOW. 75 days of slow practices that you can incorporate in your daily life without having to check off any other to-dos on your list.
Here's what I've Learned so far in Being Slow:
First of all, one of my favorite animals is the Sloth. Not only are they cute and cuddly but they have the right idea about moving slowly. There's nowhere to be right now. Just chill for a bit and enjoy the experience...
I am a little bit halfway through the challenge. It has not been an easy thing to do...shifting my mindset from "GO GO GO" to "SLOW SLOW SLOW." You see 75 SLOW isn't about going slow, but rather engaging with yourself, slowing down in whatever it is you are already doing, and experiencing life at it is, in the moment. There have been days when I have been so utterly grateful to have each practice to try and it has really helped slow down my thoughts, or the monkey chatter as I like to call it. And then, there have been days where I have been like, "Oh great another practice, habit etc. I need to have in my life because it is good for me blah, blah, blah. You see when I went into the negative headspace, I was then able to use one of the practices, and then re-direct myself to the present moment. To feel immense gratitude for this beautiful and wonderful life I have, and that I have all the tools I need to reconnect, engage and experience my life as it is in the present moment. The best part about 75 Slow, is there is nothing to DO here just to BE. To be in the present moment and experience as much as you can, and make it a lifestyle.
So I invite you today. Try something SLOW. Anything really. Start small, and then see what shows up. What else is possible? And...what amazing possibilities have you not considered in your life today?
Quotes from the 75 Slow website:
"This is not a challenge about conquering yourself, your goals, or about “achieving” anything."
"This is an invitation to engage with yourself, slow down, and experience life as it is, in THIS moment."
"Because your value doesn’t come from what you can produce. Your value comes from who you are - there is nothing to force or to prove."
