In this podcast [38 min.], Insightview interviews Jacob Funk Kirkegaard about what kind of USA and politicians in Washington the EU has to contend with in the coming years. Is Trump merely an expression of a political trend that cannot be prevented, regardless of who becomes the next president in the White House? Jacob is a Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics and the German Marshall Fund of the United States.
In the podcast, we talk about "American isolationism," which historically is more normal than abnormal. According to Jacob, the period after WWII - especially from President Eisenhower's tenure and onwards - was an exception in a historical context. We also talk about what Donald Trump will do if elected the next President of the United States. "I am going to go after the people who went after me," Trump said recently. "The Trump presidency will be the new norm for the future," according to Jacob Funk Kirkegaard.
Jacob has been a non-resident senior fellow with the Peterson Institute for International Economics [PIIE] and a resident senior fellow with the German Marshall Fund of the United States [GMF] at the GMF's Brussels office since September 2020. He has been associated with the Institute since 2002 and has been a resident senior fellow since 2013. Jacob is also head of European Research at 22V Research, A private research firm.
