Gerard Schaefer was a former deputy sheriff from Martin County, Florida, convicted of murder for the double homicide of two teenagers in 1972 in Port St Lucie, Florida. He later became known as The Killer Cop because of his profession at the time of his arrest. The press also dubbed him The Hangman because he liked to bind his victims to trees using a hangman's noose.
