How do you handle things that stop you?
Sometimes these are physical diversions. Like traffic, road construction or simply getting turned around. Other times, we all have emotional and mental things that can totally stop us in our tracks. We have fears, unknown outcomes or simple problems that can stop us.
But we all also have that thing. You know…that one thing. If you want to stop me from going somewhere…just dig a small moat and put average sized fish in it. Wide enough where I can't jump across. That'll stop me dead. Or I have this terrible fear of failure…it's plagued me for my entire life.
In our journey towards Christian maturity, we have to be willing to see what is stopping us. And this isn't just about spiritual maturity…because it is usually something that is stopping us in many different areas of our life.
On this episode we are going to look at a story of Jesus and how two different people encountered him. One of them was willing to see him for exactly who he really is and asked for him to heal him of what stopped him the most. You can read this in Luke chapter 18.
As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind beggar was sitting beside the road.36 When he heard the noise of a crowd going past, he asked what was happening.37 They told him that Jesus the Nazarene was going by. 38 So he began shouting, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"
39 "Be quiet!" the people in front yelled at him.
But he only shouted louder, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"
40 When Jesus heard him, he stopped and ordered that the man be brought to him. As the man came near, Jesus asked him, 41 "What do you want me to do for you?"
"Lord," he said, "I want to see!"
42 And Jesus said, "All right, receive your sight! Your faith has healed you."43 Instantly the man could see, and he followed Jesus, praising God. And all who saw it praised God, too.
