Above a village in Epirus, there is a path that does not appear on any map. It appears on the land. It has been walked for longer than anyone can say, by the Sarakatsani and their flocks, by fathers and sons who inherited the route the way you inherit a language, through repetition rather than instruction.

This episode follows that path a short way. It does not arrive anywhere.

What the shepherd knows is not information. It is attention, accumulated over a long time, until the land and the body are no longer distinguishing between themselves.
