What to do when the crowd is not responding to you DJing

Listen Later

As a DJ, it's natural to feel discouraged when the crowd isn't responding to your set. However, there are several things you can do to try and turn things around:

  1. Read the crowd: It's possible that the crowd isn't responding because you're not playing the right type of music for the crowd. Take a moment to observe the crowd and try to gauge what type of music they are into. You may need to switch up your set and play something more suited to their tastes.
  2. Build energy gradually: Sometimes, the crowd just needs a little time to warm up. Start with some slower or more low-key tracks and build up to the more high-energy tracks as the night progresses.
  3. Engage with the crowd: Make eye contact with people in the crowd, smile, and encourage them to dance. Use the microphone to hype up the crowd and get them excited about the music.
  4. Take risks: If you've tried everything and the crowd still isn't responding, it may be time to take a risk and play something unexpected. Try throwing in a track from a different genre or remixing a well-known song in a unique way. This can help shake things up and get the crowd back into the groove.

Remember, as a DJ, you have the power to set the mood and energy of the room. Don't get discouraged if the crowd isn't responding right away. Keep trying different approaches until you find something that works.
