Romans 12:2 (NLT) Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.
How to Heal a Broken Heart
1. Be Honest with God
Ps 142:1-3 (NLT) I cry out to the Lord; I plead for the Lord's mercy. I pour out my complaints before him and tell him all my troubles. When I am overwhelmed, you alone know the way I should turn.
Psalm 34:18 (NLT) The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.
2. Accept a New Reality
2 Samuel 12:16-18a (NLT) David begged God to spare the child. He went without food and lay all night on the bare ground. The elders of his household pleaded with him to get up and eat with them, but he refused.
2 Samuel 12:19-20,23 (NLT) When David saw them whispering, he realized what had happened. "Is the child dead?" he asked. "Yes," they replied, "he is dead." Then David got up from the ground, washed himself, put on lotions, and changed his clothes. He went to the Tabernacle and worshiped the Lord. After that, he returned to the palace and was served food and ate….“But why should I fast now? Can I bring him back? I will go to him one day, but he cannot return to me.”
3. Forgive Ourself and Others
Psalm 38:4,18 (NLT) My guilt overwhelms me—it is a burden too heavy to bear…But I confess my sins; I am deeply sorry for what I have done.
God: 1 John 1:9 (NLT) But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
Ourself: Rom 8:1-2 (NLT) So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.
Others: Matt 6:14 (NLT) "If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you.
4. Continue to Grow
Job 11:13-16 (NLT) "If only you would prepare your heart and lift up your hands to him in prayer! Get rid of your sins, and leave all iniquity behind you. Then your face will brighten with innocence. You will be strong and free of fear. You will forget your misery; it will be like water flowing away.
